Pendula

What it is

Pendula is a polyrhythm game played with two hands: your left plays the bass on one pendulum's beat and your right plays the melody on the other's. The ratio climbs from 1:2 at 60 BPM to 5:7, a little faster each level up to 100 BPM, and from level 3 the bobs fade out for a bar at a time so you keep the beat by ear.

How to play

Two pendulums swing at different speeds; tap each one as its bob crosses its centre line and you are playing the song. The ratios get stranger, 2:3, 3:4, 3:5, until you are holding two tempos in your head and the music only holds together as long as you do.

1. 1Your first run opens on CALIBRATE: tap along with the click, then press Done or Skip. Nothing starts until you do.
2. 2Tap the left side as the yellow bob crosses its line, the right side as the teal one crosses its.
3. 3Land in the bright core of the bar under a bob for a Perfect, in its faint edge for a Good; each judgement says how early or late you were.
4. 4Sync is your health. A miss costs 12, and at zero the song collapses.
5. 5Clear 16 beats to move up the ratio ladder: 1:2, 2:3, 3:4, 3:5, 4:5, 5:7, each 4 BPM faster.
6. 6Hold the beat through the blind bars from level 3, where the bobs fade and only the sound is left.
