What it is

Singe is a daily logic puzzle on a 6 by 8 grid: spend a lit shape and it goes dark while every cold cell along its edge lights up, and you open every lock in as few of those flares as you can. Everyone gets the same board each day, par is the proven minimum found by exhaustive search, and there is no timer and no way to get stuck.

How to play

A dark grid, a few patches of ember, and locks that only open for a big enough flare. Fire a patch and it goes out, but every cold cell touching it catches, so the light you spend is the light that redraws the board.

  1. 1Open every lock in as few flares as you can.
  2. 2Tap a lit shape to spend it: the whole shape goes out.
  3. 3Its edge catches — every cold cell touching it lights instead. Cells touch along edges, never corners.
  4. 4A lock opens when its cell is part of the shape you flare, and that shape has at least the lock's number of cells.
  5. 5Grey stone never lights.
  6. 6Par is the target, not a limit. Over par still solves the board; under par is not possible.
